Posh has the elegance and charm of a white table
cloth establishment but will surely offer
more than a fine dining experience. Posh
is a fine dining destination for Atlantans
to enjoy the cozy first class ambience.
Atlanta restaurateur Tom Catherall purchased
Seeger's and began its transformation into
POSH by warming up the interior with art and
music. Catherall's favorite go-to guy, Ian
Winslade, from Shout, is on board as executive
chef de cuisine, and together the pair set
the restaurant off on a different course. English-born
Winslade often reaches into his background
to produce dishes such as a terrine of ham
knuckle and foie gras or a deftly handled portion
of pork belly, both accompanied by a lightly
dressed salad of mixed greens. The menu changes
daily, so specific dishes may come and go or
the approaches to these ingredients may change
from time to time. The seasons rule at POSH,
and the region makes its contribution. Porcini-dusted
scallops ride a creamy bed of risotto flecked
with ramps, an Appalachian wild garlic. Duck
confit comes wrapped with bacon, yielding three
pink nuggets of breast on a bed of finely flavored
tiny turnips and other root veggies. For dessert,
an almond tuile basket holds house-made ice
cream, such as yogurt and honey, with fresh
fruits. Presentations tend to be quite structured
and formalized, even though rooted in a certain
earthiness. The wine list is a confused muddle
of mostly California options that in general
don't seem to work well with the food, although
the Joel Gott Sauvignon Blanc is ideal with
the scallops.
