Numerous
traveling and homegrown bands play nightly in the city's
music venues, most of which are clustered around downtown's
6th Street, between Red River Street and Congress Avenue.
While not as famous as Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Sixth
Street has an entertaining mix of comedy clubs, blues bars,
electronica, and dance clubs. College kids are a large presence
here, but the Warehouse District (around 4th Street) caters
to a more mature crowd looking for a good meal and great
drinks. These two areas are not all Austin has to offer:
South Congress and North Austin are also coming into their
own. This city has something for everyone after dark.
South by Southwest, which in print is shortened to the acronym
"SXSW," is a huge music and film conference and
festival held every March at venues in and around Austin.
Hundreds of hopeful acts from around the country descend
upon the city to perform, network with other musicians,
and meet record industry types.
