Since The Berlin Wall’s fall and the government relocated here, the city has surprised both locals and visitors alike with a veritable renaissance. Today, this rebirth pays tribute to a tumultuous, often tragic past, plus a breakthrough Berlin that’s brimming with progressive industries, a service-oriented ambiance, a spirited sports scene, and passion for betterment.
It’s beautiful how Berlin’s painstaking revitalization is paying off. Tourists are finally flocking to experience a city that’s both classic and contemporary, and its dramatically liberal, commonly eccentric local character. The mix of past and present cultural and political influences produces a destination that’s now full of intriguing attractions and landmarks — The Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, hundreds of museums, cathedrals, synagogues, monuments, memorials and more. As well, the city is full of grand, tree-lined promenades and gorgeous parks… something many visitors often overlook while rushing to key attractions.
Here’s another bit on Berlin: It’s a top European magnet for not only shopping and restaurants, but also entertainment and nightlife. Experience its excellence, sipping wine at a romantic, outdoor café, catching the Berlin Philharmonic perform live, and then dancing ‘til breakfast in the trendy Mitte district. In Berlin, it’s all possible here… |

Unless you know where to go, it can be a tricky to fall into a “raging” party scene. So save some time, skip scouting out the perfect venue, and go to The Mitte district instead. It’s trendy and established, yet unlike Kreuzberg, which is an increasingly hip hangout that’s popular with artists, immigrants and other eclectic types. Wherever you go, we hope you like techno and David Bowie, two of Berlin’s claims to fame… |

Berlin has got its share of fabulous fine-dining options, but the locals love their more casual cuisine. So if that’s your philosophy on food fun, you’re in luck! The city’s leisurely restaurant scene translates to currywurst vendors throughout Potsdamer Platz, outdoor cafés on the famous boulevard of Unter den Linden, and funky, low-key Bohemian bistros in Kreuzberg, to name a few. |

Berlin is massive, so we suggest starting your visit with a tour, exploring by foot or with a Spree River ride. You’ll hear highlights of not only what’s old, but also new — landmarks like The Television Tower, an Eiffel-Tower-like structure, The Oranienburger Strasse Synagogue (also known as The New Synagogue that replaced its predecessor after its WWII destruction), and East Side Gallery, or The Wall’s only remaining segment that’s now a gallery of outdoor art.
Once done, focus on getting a good glimpse into Berlin’s long-bygone eras, visiting Brandenburg Gate, the city’s entry point that was damaged in WWII but since restored, and The Gendarmenmarkt, a neoclassical square dating back to Napoleonic times. Another couple of cool oldies: Museum Island, and The Berlin Cathedral that houses an ancient Prussian crypt.
Ready to break from the sights? Hit one of Berlin’s popular districts for amazing shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and the famously funky nightlife. From world-class theater to symphonies… from techno clubs to riverfront “beach” bars, Berlin has got it going on! And especially if you’re visiting in late spring, summer or early fall, the weather should be temperately lovely… making your partying and touring about the city a real pleasure. |
