This single-room lounge--accessible only through the Lenox's lobby--wouldn't be out of place in the trendiest New York hotel. With a striking illuminated painting of the Esplanade (pre-1800) and a neon-lit bar, there's plenty of eye candy for the hotel guests and area professionals who jockey for space.

Perhaps as impressive as the bar's visual offerings are the drinks. From obscure bourbons and malts to a heady wine list, hard-to-please drinkers should leave satiated. The three "Infusions Diabolique," including Maker's Mark whiskey infused with Turkish figs, Chinese cinnamon and fresh vanilla bean, are dream-like in their complexity. Famished patrons can sample the offbeat menu of lighter fare from the kitchen of the hotel's standout restaurant, Azure. Appetizers (tasty twice-baked potato skins) and sandwiches (grilled Reuben) are perfect for sharing, as are the "neo postmodern s'mores" that have to be seen to be believed

Most patrons dress in black to match the swank interior (some tables are covered in black leather). Dress to impress or you may feel out of place

If you're lucky enough to snag a meter on Boylston Street, be aware that meter maids patrol the street until 8pm (except Sundays). On busy nights, it's wiser to take the Green Line to the nearby Copley stop
