The celebrities, fashion, beaches… the glitz, glam and gossip. It’s all here in sunny Los Angeles, home to Hollywood, not to mention much of the world’s most rich and famous. And yet the extravagance of this Pacific Coast city doesn’t stop with the celebrity buzz… L.A.’s quite possibly sets the world-record for 24/7 fun, considering it’s got over 2,000 museums, galleries, theaters and other attractions.
In “The City of Angels,” where the big business is show business, this city undoubtedly dishes out plenty of entertainment for adults only — the trendy bars, swanky lounges, sexy nightclubs and gourmet restaurants are second-to-none. But it’s a great, family-friendly vacation spot, too, considering this major metropolis and its vicinity are home to big attractions like Universal Studios, Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm (a local’s favorite), the Los Angeles Zoo and Aquarium of the Pacific.
Consider yourself a “big kid”? With over two-dozen beaches, L.A. is an oasis for surfing, swimming and sunbathing. It’s also a people-watcher’s paradise and a tourist’s dream-come-true with all the star-studded hotspots and attractions — Beverly Hills, Sunset Strip, Rodeo Drive, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. |

Gazing at the blue ocean, swaying palm trees, lush flowers and snow-peaked mountains, you might think you’re in a tropical locale. But Los Angeles is actually high desert, so it’s sunny and surprisingly dry most of the time. The Pacific Ocean environs keep the climate comfortable almost year-round, with May thru November being the warmest, sunniest months on the books. Breezes typically blow the suffocating smog farther inland, so that shouldn’t spoil your fun if you’re hanging beachside, shopping Rodeo Drive or touring key attractions.
The city welcomes 26 million visitors annually with the summer season being the busiest of all. No matter when you’re travel, it’s pays to make reservations for hotels, cars and dining in advance. That’s not to say last-minute travel deals don’t exist, but it’s a bummer to book flights only to find L.A.’s good hotels or more affordable car rentals sold out due to a major sporting or newsworthy event.
Speaking of cars, if you’re renting one for L.A., consider a convertible. Put the top down and soak in the sunshine. You’ll get some of the best views as you tour “topless” about town this way, whether traveling trendy routes or less-traveled roads. |
