The Scene
A literal stone's throw from General Jackson's
statue, this spacious restaurant and bar complex
blends modern and historic in a series of sumptuous
dining rooms: deep red walls with art nouveau
downstairs, full-bore gold leaf in the upper
quarters. The grand oak bar makes for a perfect
romantic rendezvous, as does the broad balcony
overlooking Jackson Square.

for filet tournedos, drizzled with flawless
red-wine sauce and pleasingly funky blue
cheese wontons. For dessert, the peanut-chocolate
bombe is astounding. Filled with delicate
mousse and caramel, it's the peanut butter
