It's almost carnival time again in New Orleans! Check out the new parade route schedule, discover information about the many krewes in the area, learn about the history of the King Cake or plan a Mardi Gras party wherever you are!
Each year there are dozens of parades in New Orleans and the surrounding area, and this year is no different. Parades begin Friday, February 5, 2010 and continue until Mardi Gras day, February 16, 2010. Usually days have several parades booked back to back, so whether you are on St. Charles Avenue with the family, catching beads from a Central Business District balcony or enjoying the floats on Canal before a night in the French Quarter, plan for a day of Mardi Gras magic!
Pack clothing that is comfortable and can be layered, as the weather is often warm during the day and cooling off for the night parades. And don't be shy—wear a costume, especially on Mardi Gras day. It's all about fun! Click here for the Parade Schedule and more Mardi Gras Information |

TRAVEL PLANS TO NEW ORLEANS |
 |
Though tourism is not what it was pre-Katrina, as a general rule, just to be on the safe side, always book ahead in spring and fall.
And if your trip will coincide with Mardi Gras or Jazz Fest, book way ahead (and we can't stress this enough) -- up to a year in advance if you want to ensure a room.Sugar Bowl week and other festival times when visitors flood New Orleans also require planning for accommodations, and there's always the chance that a big convention or sports event will be in town, making it difficult to find a room. (Though we have to admit that's often when the maligned anonymous chain hotels do come in handy because they may not be the first choice of regular visitors.
If a convention didn't take one over with block booking, there is often an extra room for a decent rate floating around.) You might conceivably run across a cancellation and get a last-minute booking, but the chances are remote at best. You should also be aware that rates frequently jump more than a notch or two for Mardi Gras and other festival times (sometimes they even double), and in most cases, there's a 4- or 5-night minimum requirement during those periods.
